For seniors living at home, it can be a struggle to stay active and socially stimulated. Activity is a key component to keeping seniors engaged and healthy. Fortunately, Phoenix, Arizona, operates 15 senior centers throughout the city that provide a vast array of recreational and educational activities geared toward the older adult. The centers are open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.

All of the centers offer a congregate lunch each day. The lunch is provided free of charge, although donations are accepted. Each center also hosts monthly birthday celebrations, exercise and art classes, and a variety of other activities and games to engage seniors and allow for much needed socializing and fun.

Some examples of scheduled trips and events include:

  • Herberger Lunch Time Theater trip -Devonshire Senior Center
  • A trip to a Diamondbacks baseball game -Adam Diaz Senior Center
  • Autumn Moon Festival and a trip to the Phoenix Federal Reserve -Chinese Senior Center
  • Fall Dance -Deer Valley Senior Center
