Fun Events for Local Phoenix Seniors

There’s a common misconception that as we age our desire to get out and about decreases. Although this may be true for some people, plenty of seniors still enjoy regular outings and socialization. Fountain Hills Great Fair

Fountain Hills Great Fair is a juried art event featuring 500 national and international artists amid the splendid scenery of the Avenue of the Fountains. Happening February 20 to 22, 2015, admission and parking are free. There are plenty of shady seating areas where seniors can sit and relax while snacking on treats from the many food booths and listening to live entertainment.

Off the Vine

If your senior loved one enjoys wine, take him or her to Off the Vine. Here, you both can meet local winegrowers and taste the best that Arizona has to offer at the historic Steam Pump Ranch in Glendale. The event is February 21 and $20 buys you seven tasting tickets and a commemorative glass.

Arizona Aloha Festival

Experience Hawaiian culture at this popular free event. The Aloha Festival takes place March 7 and 8 at Tempe Beach Park, and showcases the music, dance, food and art of Hawaii. Buy a $5 raffle ticket for a chance to win a free trip to Hawaii.

Sahuaro Park Folk Festival

On March 21 and 22, Sahuaro Park in beautiful downtown Glendale plays host to the musical talents of over 150 folk and bluegrass artists. The festival also features cowboy poetry, storytelling, and hands-on music workshops. Admission is free.

Cactus League Spring Training

For the senior sports lover in your life, Spring Training is a must. With 15 teams and more than 220 games played between March 3 and April 4, Phoenix is baseball’s premier Spring Training destination. Professional-level ball fields are located all around the metropolitan area, offering great seating, player accessibility like nowhere else, and warm weather to boot. Tickets start as low as $5 for some games, and there is free or inexpensive parking at every venue.
